Shaw has gone funny [1] and won't download afp posts today. So no posts from
me today, but not because I've gone off in a huff, just because Shaw has.

Hopefully it's just temporary. I've been having trouble since I've been

Evil, weasely Shaw - they're still non compis mentus. I talked to a
very nice tech support guy this evening, and the best information he
could find regarding the error message I got was that "someone" must
have changed the configurations on our computer. Sheeeez. Well, I
didn't.[1]
Insert a long angry rant here where, when I get up to speed, I actually
spit little spits.
I got home early and was looking forward to a nice cosy read, and a bit
of gentle posting. Figures. <huff>
April.
[1] - I don't know if my SOGP did - once every two years or so, he gets
a bee in his cranium and does change some configurations (and then
can't remember what he has changed <eye roll>), so I can't completely
rule that out - but it's a damn convenient accusation is all I can say.

My pleasure. :)
I think I may now have to reach the incandescent heights where there
will be a little tiny blobule of snot wobbling in and out of one
nostril whilst I continue on into vociferous and high decible[1]
ranting accompanied by banging on the desk with my shoe.[2]
I believe Shaw may have discontinued the news supply of
alt.fan.pratchett, and all the other pratchett-oriented groups. I bet
*that's* the "configuration change" that the error message was
referring to. I bet Shaw will never actually inform their tech
people.[3]
Okay. I always liked individual.net, and I'm not averse to paying for
my newgroup fix. I didn't originally do it because I didn't like the
arm's-length payment process (especially since they didn't have a
Canadian version - just USA, and our banking systems are sufficiently
different that if I have trouble, they probably won't know what to do).
I'd be interested in knowing other people's experience with the
payment process that individual net uses.
<snort, gibber, slobber>
April.
[1] - spelling, pah, we don't need no steeeenking spelling
[2] - not the thong - probably the hobnail birkies
[3] - I was serious about the tech guy being nice yesterday -
definitely nice, but he didn't have a clue
{4} - honestly - google's inabilty to leave a simple tag well-enough
alone is quite annoying[5]
[5] - as is trying to read through google <steam, dribble>

You know what? This got through, obviously, as did Anastasia's reply, but
whatever else there may be in this thread, including my own post that I
assume started it, did not. Nor did most of the other posts: with all the
adult-orientated threads going on just now, there must be more than the 70
posts over two days that Shaw claims to have received. I'll Speak Harshly to
Shaw and join you, April, in your rant, and have another look at L-space.
Individual.net appear to have made it not just difficult but actually
impossible to pay them from here.

I followed the instructions for paying by credit card, which I seem to
recall involved jumping through hoops to open an account with some sort
of online payment processing outfit - tedious but not difficult. The
right amount of money was removed from my account. I received a couple
of automated emails about the transaction. Some months later, when my
credit card expired and the new one was issued, I received an email from
the firm telling me I needed to go and confirm the new card number
before I could use it for any further payments from them. I think that
just before the anniversary, I received another automated email saying a
payment was about to go out, and then one saying that it had gone -
which is useful, as it acts as a receipt and for me it's a
tax-deductible business expense.
I think there were one or two welcome emails from the bank thingie
saying how wonderful their service was and look at all the other things
you could do with it, and that was it. They have not sold the email
address I gave them, and no money has disappeared from my account.
The annual subscription automatically renews each year until you
explicitly cancel it; I think the shorter term one doesn't but wouldn't
swear to it.

I would say the same except...
During the intervening year my original card had been cancelled becasue
some vile individual had been using the number to attempt internet
gambling (which the bank very neatly spotted, called me up, and believed
me instantly when I said it definitely wan't me). The Individual renewal
then bounced and I had a short exchange of emails to sort it out. But it
sorted out pretty easily.

Nuffinks getting through to me. In fact, they even stripped away the
headers that I had previously downloaded earlier in the week. There
are zero headers in all my Pratchett groups. It's google or nothing
for me. I confess, if google was all there was available, I think I'd
take nothing.

Actually I never bothered trying them in the first place (I already knew
the magnitude of Shaw's cloolessness). We went with Intergate which was
shortly thereafter borged by Uniserve. In the 5 years we've been with
Uniserve, we've had so little downtime or problems that we haven't
bothered to count them.

Yay!
(I'm back, by the way, although it is a long story, and I
think that individual.net is still in my future.)
I was gonna just go "aw shucks" and dig my toe in the sand
and say "it's not the title, I just want to be wanted" but that
obviously can't be true or I wouldn't have made such a song
& dance about not being afproposed. To.
Now I feel like a helpless little bunny in the headlights of
life, waiting for my fate to be pronounced by the title that
is thought up for me.
It's like being an adolescent again, and waiting for your
friends to come up with a cool nickname for you like, "zippy"
or "bling-bling", but, of course, they never do, because one is
not a "zippy" at heart, so it never occurs to them - and naming
oneself is usually ineffectual because one picks something like
"bling-bling" which makes your friends fall over and laugh 'til
they throw up.
So. May the muses attend thee.
April.

So we're back to my cute-little-bunny-rabbits thread? Be careful - last time
it morphed immediately into something quite horrible. I don't watch Buffy,
so I don't know quite what, but I do know that it was horrid.

I know you have said that you watched the first season
completely and felt unengaged, but I'm a fan, and so I
will tell you things you don't want to know. Anya is a
character in the buffyverse, and she's the one who has
the phobia about bunnies. It makes for some funny bits.
Anya is my favourite character.
I never quite saw what she saw in Xander, but they were
a great study of "the young couple" with their selfish reasons
for being in the relationship, and their view of the other one
as a platform on which to build their own fantasies that had
nothing to do with who the other person was. I have seen
young couples like that all my life - and their marriages never
end well. It was a great vehicle for exploring that stuff.
And I mean - Anya in a big pink bunny suit - what could
be cuter than that?
April.

Pretty much any other girl, in (or out of) a bunny suit? With the best of
will, I just can't apply the word "cute" to

Bones look better on x-rays than pictures, IMO.

It's the fashion; she's a nice example of the current
zeitgeist.
And she looked cute in an oversized bunny costume.

More of an Anya fetish. :)
Nothing wrong with bunnies. I also like kittens, puppies,
lizardettes, ferretbambinos, hamsters, mice, rats, raccoon
kits, meercats, and goldfish.

Anya was HOT, especially in the bunny suit.

Yebbut, that's Anya NOT in the bunny suit, reverted to being a vengeance
demon.

And also rather good in the musical episode. Besides, immensely cynical,
which is always good. There weren't many characters I actually liked on
that show, but she was one of them.

It's not often I agree with Arthur (in fact, this may be the
first time), but... yeah. If the makers of Hogfather had hired
her it'd have saved them a lot of money in FX; just toss her a
black robe and dub in Richardson's voice.
